Why complicate life? It seems to me that nowadays everyone wants to complicate life. Everything is a battle or a debate that turns into hate. What happened to the days when we were able to disagree with one another yet still be friends? I don’t know if it is a generational thing or something else.
Is it because when I was young, we didn’t have cell phones with cameras and videos that could capture everyone’s worst moments in an instant? We didn’t have the internet to see all the horrible things going on in the world in real time. Don’t get me wrong, I learned at a young age that terrible things happened in the world and not just to other people.
We are so saturated with the negative in the world. It is everywhere. On our televisions, our radios (now mostly satellite), our cell phones; 24-hour access, 7 days a week. We take in the devastation and without even realizing it, we lose ourselves. Our compassion, our humanity, our joy and peace.
Everyone has forgotten how to help each other and lift each other up. Again, whatever ever happened to the days when we were able to disagree with one another yet still be friends. I am not belittling anyone. I have friends from different races, with different religious beliefs, and different political views. None of those things will stop me from caring about you because I know there are bad people in all groups.
I’ve learned that sometimes I have to step back and intentionally breathe positivity back into my life. I will quit watching the news for a few weeks, play less on the internet, read my Bible more, listen to music that uplifts me, and pray. I’ve found that going outside, even for a little while, helps me focus more on the good in the world by shifting my focus to God and His creation. Why complicate life?
Truly, if everyone can wake up, go on with their day while at the same time showing love to all people, not just family and friends, think how easily we could change the world. Not even just how easily, but also, how quickly. We can bring more people to salvation through Christ by letting His light and love shine through us instead of focusing on hate and violence. Or am I too naive? Until He calls us home, why complicate life?
Below are just a few of my favorite scriptures about love. Share your thoughts!
1 John 4:7-8
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13
Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love—but the greatest of these is love.
Psalm 89:1–2O
I will sing of the steadfast love of the Lord, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations. For I said, “Steadfast love will be built up forever; in the heavens you will establish your faithfulness.”
Psalm 136:26
Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
